Full Membership

Individuals with a demonstrated level of experience, skills and qualifications to enable them to work as MMOs and PAM operators are invited to exchange knowledge and contribute their considered thoughts and concerns as Full Members. Please note that full membership is only open to those persons who work as a MMO or PAM operator to implement mitigation measures to protect marine mammals and turtles during industry or military operations. If you observe marine mammals in another capacity, for example, during scientific surveys, we welcome your input through an Associate Membership (see below).

Full members are required to:

  • Provide details of having worked as a professional MMO and/or PAM operator implementing mitigation measures during industry operations on at least two occasions in the last five years. If you are an experienced MMO or PAM operator that has not been offshore in the last 5 years but has however continued to work in a role that is related to MMO issues then you may still be considered for full membership as long as your input is still current and valid. You will be required to provide details of this role for assessment.
  • Provide details of any MMO and/or PAM training you have done, if appropriate.
  • Provide details of recent personal development in marine mammal identification and behaviour whether this was during other employment (i.e. during fisheries work) or outside of any professional commitments (e.g.voluntary surveys / guiding, holidays whale-watching, organising boat trips to see marine mammals etc). Alternatively persons who have worked for 20 weeks or more as an MMO and /or PAM operator will qualify as having relevant experience. This experience must include regular sightings of a number of marine mammal species.
  • Adhere to the MMOA's Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Pay a subscription fee.

Acceptance as a full member will allow access to a personal profile page. Here members can create their MMO Association Curriculum Vitae using the online template. This can be saved as a pdf file or printed by each member. On the personal profile page members will also have access to the MMO Forum and the Information Directory.

Membership Fees for Full Membership

The membership fee each year is rated depending on which country group your nationality falls under.  The fees are as follows:

Group A – Full Membership £35  
Group B – Full Membership £28
Group C – Full Membership £16
Group D – Full Membership £8
Group E – Full Membership £4

How to Apply
 
To apply for full membership please click on the sign up button at the bottom of this page. On the next page you will see a registration form which you will need to complete in full prior to payment.This form will create a user profile for you and is where you will enter details outlining your qualifications for full membership.
 
This registration form will be later checked for your eligibilty for full membership. It is important that you have the qualifications for full membership as listed above. Please make sure you have this information available for your registration form.

Please note that if you pay for full membership without the appropriate qualifications your membership will be changed to Associate Membership. Associate Membership

Other interested parties (such as students, prospective MMOs or PAM operators, newly qualified MMOs or PAM operators, company employees with an interest in MMO issues etc) are invited to join as Associate Members.

The main benefits to the Associate Members will be:

  • Input to the Association´s aims and objectives;
  • Opportunity to influence the future development of the profession;
  • Access to the MMOA Forum resources and Information Directory;
  • Invitation to comment on MMO issues;
  • Recognition as an interested party and listed in the online Membership Directory;
  • Complimentary one year Affiliate membership to the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST);
  • Social media badge.
Acceptance as an associate member will allow access to a personal profile page. Here members will have access to the Information Directory and also be able to make comments regarding MMO issues. Associate members will not be eligible to stand for the MMOA Committee, nor are voting rights conferred.
 
How to Apply

To apply for full membership please click on the sign up button at the bottom of this page. On the next page you will register as a user, creating a username and password. Then you will proceed to the payment page.
