Listed below are Full Members of the Marine Mammal Observer Association (MMOA). Full Members are those who work as Marine Mammal Observers or Passive Acoustic Monitoring Operators who have a certain level of experience as detailed below.

During the application process Full Members were required to:

  • Provide details of having worked as a professional MMO and/or PAM operator implementing mitigation measures during industry operations on at least two occasions in the last five years. If an experienced MMO or PAM operator had not been offshore in the last 5 years but has however continued to work in a role that is related to MMO issues then this person was considered for full membership as their input is still current and valid. They were required to provide details of this role for assessment.
  • Provide details of any MMO and/or PAM training they have done.
  • Provide details of recent personal development in marine mammal identification and behaviour whether this was during other employment (i.e. during fisheries work) or outside of any professional commitments (e.g. voluntary surveys / guiding, holidays whale-watching, organising boat trips to see marine mammals etc). Alternatively persons who have worked for 20 weeks or more as an MMO and /or PAM operator will qualify as having relevant experience. This experience must include regular sightings of a number of marine mammal species. Applicants were required to provide details of referees to verify their experience.

Full Members are invited to comment on MMO issues which will provide the foundation for policy statements from the MMOA. This is facilitated by an online interactive forum. Full Members also have access to an Information Directory to keep them up to date with MMO issues.

Please note that application for Full Membership requires the submission of information as listed above. However the MMO Association takes no responsibility for any Full Member supplying false information. Our Full Member list on the website aims to highlight those individuals who, by joining the Association, strive to improve their knowledge of MMO issues and work to a professional standard. Any prospective employer, when considering a MMOA Full Member for any project should fully reference that individual for professional competency through the appropriate channels.

Some Members have chosen to display their LinkedIn profile to further highlight their experience and to facilitate networking.
